Almost left behind!
The beauty of the Nexus pass! We love the fact the our Nexus
passes get us into Canada in no time at all.
There’s nothing like the feelings of grandeur that come from cruising
over the bridge with no cars in front of you. But air travel with it, is the
best! We don’t mind all the checks, if that’s what it takes to keep us safe.
It’s a minor inconvenience considering what’s at stake. But let’s face it, no
matter how many times I repeat, “Embrace the journey!” it’s Hawaii! The faster
we get there the better! So Nexus you are our hero! While our fellow passengers
are standing in line, shoes and belts off, we are cruising through security
tossing the common folk a sympathetic smile as go by. (So sorry but we too once
had to take our liquids out!) The whole process was great; everyone was more
than friendly and helpful as we sped our way through all the check points…
until….. CALAMITY strikes! Lou’s boarding pass had a big red X on it. The guard
motioned the 3 of us on but said to Lou, “What did you do??” We cleared the
check point and tried to wait for him but were politely yet firmly told to move
on. We waited at the end of security but
no red FDNY red hat came out! We nervously paced and worried. (Yikes is it the
way I packed? I knew I shouldn’t have
packed so many shoes!) Finally I checked
with an official looking woman in heels that clearly said she had some kind of
power. I was told it wasn’t a security issue but a customs issue and it could
take anywhere from 1-3 hours to resolve! Did I say YIKES yet!!! I was going to
miss him, (sniff, sniff) but let’s be practical, it’s Hawaii!! We had an hour
and a half to boarding! Eventually we spied the red hat coming through the
gate. It seems his passport had been reported stolen! (Phew it wasn’t the
shoes!) After many attempts to explain that he had not report it stolen, he
realized he was getting nowhere! “Computers don’t lie sir!” (Always polite) End
result was he was let through sans passport! Confiscated!! We’re told his Nexus
pass will get him back into the US though. I don’t mind saying, I’m a bit
worried and I’ll miss him if not. Check back to see if Nexus comes through for
us again, but I’m sure he can live with my sister Mary Ann if not! There’s a
killer-great Italian bakery down the street from her house. See you on the other side! (Hopefully Lou will
be with me!)
