Day 2
(oops! Day 3 got posted before day 2! So sorry!)
Not bad for a bunch of old folks!
We started our day with a Hike to the top of Diamond Head, a
750 Ft extinct volcanic peak. It’s a ¾ mile trail, which sounds like a short
stroll, but it is a formidable, upward accent with numerous stairs to climb as
well as a few tunnels. The top is an incredible 360 degree panoramic view. On
our way down we ran into a 30 something couple sitting on a bench. They asked
Lou about the difficulty of the climb. Lou said it was challenging but “You
could do it”. The wife, who was a bit unsure about the climb, said 3 times to
her husband, “Look at his shirt” or “Did you see his shirt?” I guess Lou’s
Chicago marathon shirt may have intimidated her just a bit!

After a quick coffee shop breakfast, we packed up and said
goodbye to Waikiki. Strange how all those clothes fit so easily into that
suitcase just days before but not today. Must be the pair of sparkly flip flops
I bought.
We heard that eating at the food trucks was the way to go so
we got dinner at a nearby Thai food truck. We were a little worried when we saw
a few scrawny cats running in and out beneath the truck but were much relieved when
they were still there after we got our order! The food was great!
We were confused when we couldn’t find a bottle of wine to
have with dinner but soon learned that we were in a dry town! The lady at the grocery
store took one look at B and said, “Did anyone tell you how to find alcohol?”
Wonder what gave us away?
